Admiral of the Fleet Lord Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl of Burma, was murdered along with some unlucky family members on August 27, 1979 at Mullaghmore in Ireland.
The Provisional IRA placed a 50-pound bomb on his boat, which exploded while they were on the water. Lord Mountbatten was 79 years old. One of his 14-year-old twin grandsons was among the dead.
